As rumors have been circulating for the past couple of months or so, today Apple has finally announced the iPad2.

As most have expected, the new model provides two cameras, facetime capabilities, the new A5 processor, same battery duration as the original, availability on both at&t and verizon networks, early release date, a slimmer form factor, a larger speaker and a new dongle for HDMI output. As for software features, the iPad 2 will have GarageBand, iMovie, photobooth, facetime, and the new iOS 4.3 update. The price is still the same as the original iPad and there is a new cover addition to the iPad.

But what is missing? There was no mention of the retina display for the iPad2 and no mention of an SD slot. Maybe these two weren’t as important for this recent update to the iPad but it would have been nice to have a higher resolution and the opportunity to add external storage. I shall wait for the iPad3 since rumors have been spreading around the launch date for the iPad3 is later sometime this year. edit: Since I do not remember where the article of the “supposed rumors of the iPad3 for this year” is at, I will just have to remove that content until further notice.

All of the following information comes from the engadget website.

I am a big fan of the iPad2 but I mostly just use it to watch TV on the go so it not having an SD slot isn’t really a big concern of mine. As a DISH Network employee I know that they’re the only company to provide true TV Everywhere and boy am I glad they do. I use my iPad2 to manage my recordings or stream live TV anywhere I have internet access. With the DISH Remote Access app and the iPad2’s new thinness, it’s more mobile than ever!
